Billy Horschel won the BMW Championship on the strength of his hot putter. Talking about his victory, Horschel said, “I made a lot of putts this week and something I haven’t been doing all year. So it was huge to rely on the putter when it hasn’t shown up as much as I would have liked.” Horschel gained 0.2 strokes per round with his putting during the season, but a remarkable 3.0 strokes per round this week. September 2, 2014 :  Strokes gained at the Deutsche Bank Championship: Kirk wins at TPC Boston with short game, putting brilliance

Chris Kirk won the Deutsche Bank Championship yesterday, overcoming an opening round of 73 with three rounds in the sixties. Kirk told his caddie after his poor first round, “This is no fun, I don’t feel like going to hit balls, I’ll see you tomorrow. Shows you how ridiculous this game is to come out and play three rounds, 66, 64, 66 to win, is beyond belief.” Read more…

August 26, 2014 :  Strokes gained at The Barclays: Hunter Mahan wins for the first time in two years on the strength of his short game

Hunter Mahan broke out of a packed leaderboard with five birdies in the final nine holes to win The Barclays and jump into the lead in the FedExCup Playoffs. Mahan’s 14 under par bettered the field by an average of 3.3 strokes per round for the tournament. Read more…
